How do you afford to travel so much? You don’t have to be rich to travel. When I first graduated college I was making less than $30,000 a year working retail. I could barely afford my rent, let alone a vacation, but I always found ways to make travel a priority without breaking the bank. I would scour the internet for flight deals, stay in cheap hostels, and when traveling through Europe I would take overnight trains to get from one city to the next to avoid paying for accommodations. Now my lifestyle has shifted, and I don’t have to go through those drastic measures, but I still find ways to cut costs by booking ahead of time and travel hacking. You can read my blog post about my top 5 travel hacks to help save money here.

What steps did you take to become a full-time freelancer?Saying bye to my 9-5 was not a walk in the park. I had to prepare myself by cutting out unnecessary spending, and setting myself up for financial success. I paid off all my debt and started aggressively saving until I had 8 months of living expenses, including health insurance and a buffer for emergencies. In addition, I started building my clientele to ensure I would have a steady income flow once I quit. I made some mistakes along the way, but I wouldn’t trade my new lifestyle for anything in the world. I love doing work that is meaningful to me, and having the freedom to travel whenever my budget allows me to. My friends are always making excuses for why they can't go on trips. Can you be my travel buddy?Go without them! Traveling alone doesn’t have to be scary. In fact, it’s not. Obviously, you want to be smart and not do anything that would put you in danger, but you will find that solo travel is actually very freeing. Everyone has their own travel style, but more times than not, you will meet people along the way who are like minded and enjoy the same things you do. I prefer slow travel. I like to indulge in the culture and discover the beauty of each destination beyond the glamorization of drone shots and photos on Instagram. I am always happy to answer any questions you may have about traveling, and I will be hosting annual group trips for those who are interested in joining me for any adventures. You can join my fb group, where I post weekly flight deals and travel updates here.
